Expect Unexpected Expectations
I really just like fun titles...but also a bit about expectations
It has been eating at me that I haven’t sent out a newsletter every Tuesday morning as I once planned of doing…so before another week passes, I’ve got 5 things that somehow became expectations in my head that were never meant to be expectations along this journey.
These are all likely self-imposed, but it is wild how easy it is to think they come from others when they…well…don’t.
I expected to magically become an expert newsletter writer who could casually capture her thoughts with perfect grammar within 5 minutes every week. Marketing experts will say that consistency is key. They aren’t wrong…
I expected to build a candy factory within a year. Haha! I did build a really freaking cool candy lab in a year, but a full factory was potentially a bit of a stretch…
I expected to launch a new brand of fruit snacks in the Spring of 2021 even though it was a side gig. The purpose of the brand was/is to test the business model and need state for Sprinkk, and holy smokes did it prove that. Manufacturing is tough right now.
I expected that the legal interpretation of “good working order” of a building unit included the back door opening. Joke is on me for that assumption.
I expected to seamlessly balance a life of building a candy factory, remodeling a development lab and launching a fruit snack brand with casually hosting dinner parties in a fully decorated home where we’d dine on fresh trout caught from the stream adorned with veggies from my garden. All while also consulting and developing other people’s products. Thanks Martha Stewart.
This sounds so silly written out, but are all legitimate things I imagined not that long ago. That last one cracks me up, but it is so true. I somehow thought I’d find 80 hours in a day and not be stressed about it.
I might not be hitting those targets all at once, but here are 5 things that HAVE happened this year so far…
I discovered that I actually like to write, and in doing so, have gotten over some funny self concious junk. Thankfully this newsletter is not tied to my real job and can be a venue for inconsistency.
Lead times on equipment are crazy long right now…BUT I have successfully found enough used equipment on auctions to set up the first Sprinkk manufacturing facility…and still within about 18 months! Woah dang I’m about to have a candy factory!
Norma’s is ready to launch! Wait, did you get that? That fruit snack brand is MADE and (almost) ready to go live! *IYKYK…you should have signed up on the email wait list at www.normas.com…*
I’ve built up an incredible network of people in Omaha this year of business owners, finance gurus, investors, creators, transportation experts, realtors, mechanics, electricians, engineers, neighbors, & …lawyers. Hire people to read the fine print on leases ya’ll…
Scott and I painted the basement garage to make it a swanky home gym, and I hosted my family at my house for my birthday taco feast this summer which I’ve never before had the opportunity to do. And I figured out how to cook beef tongue in the process!
There will always be things that come up that we didn’t expect, but take some time today to take a breath and count a few blessings and accomplishments. There is a sweet spot between dreaming big impactful dreams and remembering that life is not a race. I hope to meet you there in that spot too, with some coffee …and fruit snacks.
Sweet fact #9
Marshmallows and gummy bears are very similar. Obviously they are different, but really only because of an ingredient that isn’t really even an ingredient…air! If you were to melt down a bunch of gummy bears and whip them up in your mixer, you could make some fruity marshmallowy treats!
…would you try that? Should we do it?
